Biography
Iván Cherednichenko Carrillo began his cello studies aged 5 at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama under the tutelage of Andrew Elliott and Kyle Patterson, while studying piano privately with Esther Walker. Iván also took cello tuition from Oliver Gledhill. His final year at the College was marked with several successes; winning the concerto competition, performing Elgar’s Cello Concerto, receiving second place in the Intercollegiate Piano Trio Competition, and being awarded the Principal’s Prize for his contributions to the College. He also gained a distinction in his ARSM piano diploma with the guidance of Pavlina Radoslavova.
In 2022 Iván moved to The Purcell School - a turning point in his musical development. There he was supported by the Government’s Music and Dance Scheme, and studied cello with Pal Banda and Dr. Richard Jenkinson, continuing his piano studies with Alla Kravchenko. In his last year he was awarded the Prize for Contemporary Performance and won the Sonata Competition playing Rachmaninov’s Sonata for Cello and Piano. During this period, he also studied at the Junior Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he held principal cellist positions, was in the Lutine Prize final in 2023 and 2024, and won the Strings Prize in his last term.
Recent successes include winning the title Gregynog Young Musician of the Year 2023, playing Shostakovich’s Concerto No.2 in The Purcell School’s senior concerto competition final, and being awarded top prizes at the 7th New Talent Festival.
Iván's active interest in chamber music has taken him to performances across the UK and to European destinations including France, Italy and Malta. Notable performances include Mendelssohn’s Octet with Dmitry Sitkovetsky and the Purcell School Chamber Soloists at the opening of the 18th Malta Spring Festival as well as a recital at the Wigmore Hall. Iván has established a string quartet at the Royal College of Music, where studies cello with Gemma Rosefield supported by an RCM scholarship.
Masterclasses with distinguished mentors such as Raphael Wallfisch, Louise Hopkins, Alexander Baillie and Julian Lloyd-Webber have aided Iván in developing depth to his artistry and establishing connections outside of his institutions.
Iván plays on the Collin-Mezin “Rothermere” cello loaned to him by The Cherubim Music Trust, with whom he has a performance of Dvorak’s Cello Concerto coming up in 2026. Other scheduled performances include a solo recital for Welshpool Music Club in May.
